I was actually very surprised how securely this fit and how well it worked out. Lastly, I cut the 1x2s to size, glued them in position, and stained them to blend in with the support braces. Then, I traced the outline of the braces on the underside of the table once they were positioned correctly. Next, I placed the table on top of the braces and measured all 4 sides to ensure there was equal distance between the front/back and left/right. I chose to make an outline of the upper 4×4 out of 1x2s and glue them in place. The pecky cypress table needed to be removable, so I had to get creative. I secured the shims with glue and brad nails. Next, I used my Japanese finish saw to gently saw the shims at the line I marked. Then, I placed an ‘X’ of the side that needed to be discarded. I marked the shims with a black line at the cutoff point.

There were a few wobbly spots that were easily fixed with wooden shims.

Time to put the pecky cypress table on the support braces to see how it fit.
